Botox – how long does it last

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog talks about botox and its longevity.

Botox comes in a powder form and must always be refrigerated. So normally it will be delivered via a cool box. The botox should then be immediately removed and kept in the fridge. If it is out of the fridge for more than an hour, then the botox activity is shortened considerably.

It is then mixed with saline to produce a liquid and this is the botox that is injected. Same again, once the botox is mixed with saline, it will have a short half life. Typically it will lose its activity after 4 hours. Therefore if there is any botox left after a few hours rom mixing with the saline, it should be discarded as there result will not be ideal.

Botox can work very well, but as you can see, certain precautions need to be taken into account when storing the botox and when mixing the botox.

Regular monitoring of the fridge temperature is critical, so allowing the botox to be stored in ideal conditions and thus allowing predictable results with the botox treatments.
